The pressure and stress brought by school can sometimes be too much to handle. This is mostly true among students and teachers who have been struggling to wake up every day to perform their respective duties and responsibilities.
In one school campus in the Philippines, dealing with stress becomes much more manageable with the help of Cotton and Tisay – the first resident therapy dogs of the University of the Philippines, Diliman. After dominating the local and national news on different social media platforms, Cotton and Tisay have been proof that animals can be a great source of help and having one to cuddle and just spend time with is therapeutic. They will be able to make those who are emotionally struggling like teachers, staff, and students on school campuses a little less stressed.
This all started with the idea of establishing a program involving therapy dogs. Michael Tan, the chancellor of UP Diliman, said that dogs like Cotton and Tisay are great stress-relievers. It lightens up the emotional pressures felt by students and school staffs.
Research proves that animals can help humans in healing process. Many medical institutions are already incorporating dog therapy sessions with various patients. Today, everyone can interact with Cotton and Tisay in times when they are mentally and emotionally exhausted. This program of UP Diliman is also an eye-opener to everyone on animal care and welfare. When we take care of our pets, they take care of us too.
As per the administration’s posts, Cotton is a cross between a Labrador and AsPin or Asong Pinoy ( Philippine Dog) who is residing at the College of Mass Communication of UP Diliman. Tisay, the other therapy dog, is an AsPin staying with the other staff and personnel at the Quezon Hall of UP Diliman.
