Mortimer started having stomach problems which prompted his mom to take him immediately to the vet. She wasn’t all that worried, nor was the veterinarian, at least not yet.
The attending vet to Mortimer, Dr. Doug Brum if MSPCA Angell, gave him some medication before sending him home. With this, Mortimer’s family wished that nothing like this follows. But when Mortimer started acting like a different dog, it seemed that luck wasn’t on their side.
As it turns out, the medication only helped temporarily and he got sicker, Mortimer’s behavior kept changing as well. He spent the better half of his days dozing off and he stopped following his mom around like he used to. Not only until poor Mortimer stopped eating did his mom know it was way more serious than she initially thought.
Mortimer was rushed back to MSPCA Angell’s Animal Medical Center and went under X-rays that delivered some rather shocking news. He had 19 baby pacifiers inside his stomach that blocked his digestive system.
Mortimer had stolen the pacifiers gradually, one by one, over a several month time period. His stealth proved most effective as his family had no clue that they were disappearing.
With this, the team of veterinarians got on the job and Dr. Erika De Papp performed a simple endoscopy and successfully rid Mortimer of the pacifiers in his digestive tract. Dr. Brum shared that because of his family’s urgency to pursue veterinary care for him, things were prevented from getting worse.
Mortimer did just fine recuperating at home. He got back to his original self and his family is overjoyed that he was able to get help in the nick of time.
Mortimer’s family was oblivious to his obsession with pacifiers. But now that they have an idea, they will for sure place them away from the reach of a particular cheeky bulldog.
