Your dog growls at strangers and is ready to pounce on them at a moments notice should he perceive them a threat. He even chases off wild (and not so wild) animals that dare roam in your backyard. Would he jump in front of a bullet for you though?
A man from Brazil named Oscar Persisco knows the answer to this question, and based on his experience, the answer is… ‘yes’. Persico’s dog ‘Max’ actually took 3 bullets while trying to rescue his owner from armed robbers.
Persico was approached by the two robbers while he was in the process of parking his truck. The robbers demanded Persico’s keys and when he refused, they started firing at him. The 47-year old’s forehead was grazed with a bullet and this is when Max leaped into action.
Max was able to catch one of the robbers as the other one escaped. Soon shots rang out once again as the thief shot Max three times in order to escape. With the thieves scared off, Persico’s attention immediately turned to get help for Max.
He had wounds to both his chest and leg, so Perisco rushed his K-9 superhero to the nearest vet to get him the attention he needed. At the time of this writing, it was Max was expected to make a full recovery luckily.
If it wasn’t for Max, Persico may have been severely wounded or even killed. Max saved his life that day and Persico will forever be grateful to him for that. It’s truly amazing the length that our dogs will go to in order to keep us safe and happy.
I’m quite sure stories like this one happen almost every day, but each time you hear an almost unbelievable tale like this, it really makes you stop and realize the unconditional love our best friends have for us.
For me personally, I have no doubt that if the situation presented itself, my dog would react in the same exact way if there was a threat to my life. I believe that there’s no other bond that exists on this earth that’s quite like the one between dog and man. Taking a bullet (or three) is just one example that demonstrates this.
